Barking Up the Wrong Tree
If someone’s behavior feels disrespectful or hurtful, complaining and hoping they’ll change is barking up the wrong tree. The truth is, they’ve just triggered a part in us that is disrespectful and hurtful to ourselves. Their behavior is a mirror showing us how we treat ourselves. Since we don’t want to believe we do this to ourselves, we project it out and get angry out there. If it wasn’t a self-reflection, we wouldn’t take it personally. We’d realize the truth that they were hurting inside and rather than get angry or want to hurt them back…
Compassion would arise in us.
