Worrying about future, potentially unhappy scenarios is unnecessary. It’s like making an advance payment of suffering on something that might never happen. Plus, this unhappy emotional state has momentum that carries itself forward into the future and reduces our ability to deal creatively with what comes next. It robs us of vital energy that would otherwise be used to enjoy the present moment. We can’t think our way out of hypothetical problems because neither they — nor their solutions — exist yet.
