Triggers Are an Inside Job

If someone's behavior triggers an emotional response, blaming them for our feelings will result a missed opportunity for healing. Even if they apologize and change their behavior to accommodate us, the trigger remains in us, lying dormant until it's activated again from a different source. On the other hand, if we realize that our reaction comes from within, we can sit with the sensations caused by our emotions until they dissolve. Once emotions are felt and processed this way, both the charge and reaction disappear. The very same behavior is then met...

With compassion.
