When children are learning to walk they fall down and sometimes hurt themselves. Parents quickly offer comfort by distracting them or telling them that they’re alright. But that’s not always true. Sometimes falling down hurts. These well-meaning parents are unintentionally teaching their children that their real feelings aren’t valid.
